Stress to Breath - for Chamber Quintet (2016)
|
Scored for Vibraphone, Harp, Piano, Cello, and Flute, Stress to Breath is a chamber quintet comprised of what I believe to be the five most beautiful instruments in the world. The piece begins with a Vibraphone solo that gradually develops into a minimalist piano entrance reminiscent of Philip Glass. From then on layers are added to enhance the music into a peaceful, trancing state. The middle section takes a darker dissonant turn brought on by the vibraphone. This tense gesture is continually answered by a gentle line in the higher register instruments that relieves the listener from the dissonance. This is meant to represent the conversion of Stress to Breath. The music then returns back to a reprise of the first section ending with a short vibraphone conclusion. Instead of letting ourselves be crippled by the overwhelming stress of everyday life, we must use it instead as breath to keep us moving and alive. To purchase please CONTACT for more information |
