be kind rewind - for Brass Trio and Electronic Playback (2016)

Scored for Trumpet, Horn, Trombone, and electronic accompaniment, be kind rewind offers a darker take on the combination of EDM and chamber music. By the use of retrogradable rhythms, register play, and tape player samples, the music creates a rewinding, reversal effect. This is most clearly seen in the second section of the piece: A tape player's play button is pushed in the track which cues a slow, low register Trombone melody. The tape player is then stopped and pushed into rewind. The melody is played backwards, twice as fast, and 4 octaves higher in the horn and trumpet. This effect is utilized throughout the piece and builds into a Dub-Step like conclusion with the use of brass mutes.
